Occupational Stress Survey

Liverpool John Moores University is conducting a study into occupational stress, investigating the experience of physical symptoms and beliefs regarding health. The study has been funded by the HSE as part of their initiative to investigate the relationship between stress and health.

Participation involves completion of an online questionnaire, which takes approximately 20 minutes and can be accessed from the internet. The online format ensures maximum confidentiality and anonymity, and all data will be covered by the Data Protection Act (1998).

Work-Stress Network Conference

“Enforcing the HSE stress management standards” is the theme of a national conference being organised by the UK National Work-Stress Network. The event is not being held until Saturday 10 November 2007 but an early-bird booking fee of £50 is available for delegates who register before October 13th.

The UK National Work-Stress network is a campaigning organisation. It can provide expert speakers on stress to employers and trade unions for use at seminars, workshops and conferences; and also produces a regular e-newsletter.

The November conference is being held at the Hillscourt Conference Centre near Birmingham and is aimed at union representatives, safety managers, HR specialists and stress management consultants. For more information please visit the network’s website www.workstress.net

Line Manager Behaviour and Stress

Joint CIPD/Health and Safety Executive research shows that a manager’s behaviour can have a major impact on employees’ stress levels affecting the well-being of employees and organisational performance. As a result, the two organisations have produced joint guidance aimed at line managers on the specific behaviours needed to prevent and reduce stress at work.
